Marybert School Celebrates Color’s Day: A Prelude to Tihar
On October 30, 2024, Marybert School organized a vibrant and joyful Color’s Day celebration, a special event filled with color, creativity, and excitement. Held just before the festive season of Tihar (also known as Dipawali), this day allowed children to immerse themselves in art and explore the rich symbolism of color and light associated with the festival. The celebration was designed to introduce students to the cultural significance of Tihar, one of the most beloved festivals in Nepal, in a hands-on, artistic way.
The highlight of Color’s Day was the mandala painting activity. Students were provided with mandala outlines, a traditional art form that symbolizes balance and harmony. In keeping with the colorful spirit of Tihar, older students were given watercolor paints to create their designs, while younger students used crayons to bring their mandalas to life. Each child had the chance to personalize their artwork, blending colors to express their unique creativity.
Marybert School’s Pre-primary teachers, Krishna, Hanna, and Ashmita, played an instrumental role in organizing and managing the day’s activities. They ensured that each child had the materials they needed and provided guidance to help them understand the cultural themes represented by their artwork. The result was a lively environment where students could learn, create, and connect with the essence of Tihar.
As students painted, they learned about Tihar’s deeper meanings—celebrating life, honoring relationships, and inviting happiness and prosperity. Through Color’s Day, children not only enjoyed a fun and creative activity but also gained a greater appreciation for Nepal’s cultural heritage and the role of art in expressing tradition.
The celebration concluded with enthusiastic smiles all around, as students admired each other’s creations and reflected on the joyful anticipation of Tihar. Color’s Day at Marybert School was a beautiful example of how art and culture can come together to create lasting memories and meaningful experiences for young learners.
