Exploring the World of Birds: A Creative Learning Journey for Pre-Primary Students at Marybert School

This month, the pre-primary children at Marybert School embarked on an exciting adventure into the colorful and diverse world of birds, thanks to the imaginative guidance of their teachers—Krishna, Hanna, and Ashmita. With a blend of art, craft, hands-on activities, and games, our young learners are discovering various bird species, understanding their characteristics, and developing a love for nature. Here’s how this immersive learning experience unfolded.

Activities That Brought Birds to Life:

1. Colorful Bird Collages:
Guided by their teachers, each child received an outline sketch of a bird—such as a parrot, penguin, pigeon, crow, and rooster—on white A4 paper. Using colored paper cutouts, they carefully decorated each sketch to match the natural colors of the bird. This activity helped students learn about the appearance of different birds while encouraging creativity and fine motor skill development.

2. Creating a Peacock with Leaves:
In this nature-inspired activity, children gathered leaves from the school garden and used them to form the peacock’s magnificent tail feathers on paper. This exercise introduced them to the peacock’s appearance and allowed them to explore and appreciate materials found in nature.

3. Crafting a Rooster with Balloons and Plastic Gloves:
To create the shape of a rooster, children inflated thin plastic gloves and adorned them with colorful paper to mimic feathers. This craft brought the unique structure and vibrant look of a rooster to life, engaging the children in a fun and tactile project.

4. Penguin Jumping Game:
To experience how penguins move, children placed plastic balls between their thighs and hopped around the playground, just like penguins. This playful exercise was not only entertaining but also helped them understand how penguins adapt to their environments, building empathy and improving coordination.

5. Using Hand Gestures to Imitate Birds:
Under the guidance of their teachers, students used various hand gestures to mimic bird wings, practicing flapping and walking like birds. This activity encouraged creativity, movement, and allowed them to imagine how birds fly and interact with their surroundings.

6. Running, Flying, and Swimming Birds:
In a final, high-energy activity, children carried their bird sketches and ran around the playground to simulate how birds fly, while others walked and “swam” to represent land and water birds. Through this, they learned that birds have diverse behaviors and habitats, showcasing the wonders of the avian world.

The Learning Objectives:

The bird-themed program, thoughtfully designed by teachers Krishna, Hanna, and Ashmita, was intended to spark children’s imagination and curiosity. Through art, craft, games, and songs, students learned to identify different birds, understood their movements, and were introduced to diverse natural habitats. These activities fostered teamwork, built fine and gross motor skills, and most importantly, cultivated a sense of wonder for the avian world.

This engaging approach to learning underscores Marybert School’s commitment to making education an enriching, hands-on experience. Our pre-primary students are now more familiar with the beauty and diversity of birds, and we are thrilled to witness their enthusiasm and curiosity soar as high as the birds they’ve come to know and love!

A huge thank you to Krishna, Hanna, and Ashmita for bringing this creative and educational program to life. Their dedication and innovative approach have truly inspired our young learners, making their first steps in nature education unforgettable.

Stay tuned for more updates as we continue to explore the wonders of the world with our young students!
