Marybert School Organizes an Exciting Field Trip to Bhaktapur and Changunarayan Temple
On February 29, 2024, students from Grades 5 and 6 at Marybert School embarked on an exciting and educational field trip to Bhaktapur Durbar Square and Changunarayan Temple. The trip was organized by Marybert School and led by Sir Rojan Shakya. This special excursion was attended by all students from both grades, providing them with a valuable opportunity to explore Nepal’s rich cultural heritage.
Exploring Bhaktapur Durbar Square
The trip commenced at 11:00 AM as the students, accompanied by teachers and guides, boarded the school van to Bhaktapur Durbar Square. Their journey through history began with a visit to the famous Queen’s Pond (Laxmi Pokhari), followed by Siddha Pokhari, an ancient water reservoir. They then explored Bhaktapur Durbar Square, marveling at its historic temples and palaces.
The students were particularly fascinated by the Golden Fountain (Naga Pokhari) and the intricately designed Fifty-Five Window Palace (Pachpanna Jhyal), which showcases the finest woodwork of the Malla era. The tour continued to the lively Pottery Square, where they observed traditional pottery-making techniques and even tried their hands at shaping clay.
Tasting Bhaktapur’s Famous Juju Dhau
Midway through the trip, the students took a well-deserved break to enjoy some delicious snacks. A highlight of the day was tasting Bhaktapur’s most famous treat, Juju Dhau, the rich and creamy “King of Yogurts.” The students relished the experience of indulging in this local delicacy.
Visit to Changunarayan Temple
After Bhaktapur, the group headed towards the revered Changunarayan Temple, one of the oldest temples in Nepal and a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Here, they witnessed a mesmerizing traditional god dance, which captivated their attention and enriched their understanding of Nepali culture and traditions. Throughout the tour, Sir Rojan, along with Raju and Simon, guided the students, providing insightful knowledge about the sites they visited.
A Fun-Filled Skating Experience
To add an element of excitement, the students then went for a skating session. For most of them, it was their first time trying skating, leading to plenty of falls and laughter. Despite the initial struggles, the children thoroughly enjoyed the experience, making it a memorable part of the day.
A Grand Feast and Gratitude to Sir Rojan
The trip concluded with a delightful meal at a local restaurant, where students shared their experiences and reflected on the day’s adventures. This wonderful field trip was generously sponsored by Sir Rojan Shakya as a token of his love and care for the students before his departure to Austria for his Master’s degree in Economics.
Marybert School extends heartfelt gratitude to Sir Rojan for organizing and funding this enriching experience. The field trip was not only educational but also a fun-filled and unforgettable journey for all the students involved.
